Etobicoke Wellness Centre and new patient tower slated for completion by end of 2018

The transformation of William Osler Health System’s Etobicoke General Hospital continues to move steadily ahead and the site’s two new buildings are taking shape – with one recently christened as the ‘Etobicoke Wellness Centre’.

The site’s new Etobicoke Wellness Centre (EWC) is a six-storey, 200,000 square foot structure that will replace the existing, aging medical office building serving Etobicoke and surrounding communities. A bright, contemporary space, the EWC will be home to several of Osler’s outpatient services, including a fracture clinic, diagnostic imaging services, and a new, 36-station satellite dialysis program. Moving from the site’s current medical office building will be doctors’ offices and clinics, as well as the addition of many other community doctors and health care services.

The building’s basic structure and exterior finishing are almost complete. Over the next several months, the inside of the building will be ‘fit out’ to meet the specific needs of the physician offices and outpatient services.

“The community has relied on the innovative, quality care delivered by Etobicoke General for more than 45 years, and it will continue to do so for many decades to come as this hospital moves steadily along on its renovation and expansion journey,” said Dr. Brendan Carr, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “This is an exciting time for health care in North Etobicoke. Each milestone in this journey is a significant step forward in transforming Etobicoke General into a hospital for the 21st century and providing the very best in diagnostics, treatment and technology to serve the community’s growing health care needs.”

The site’s other renovation and expansion project – a new four-storey patient tower – will add approximately 250,000 square feet of space to the hospital and house the services most urgently needed by the community it serves. Some features of the tower will include:
  • A larger, state-of-the-art emergency department
  • Cardiac Care and Intensive Care Units
  • A Maternal newborn unit with birthing suites and a specialized nursery
  • A new ambulatory procedures unit
  • Cardiorespiratory and neurodiagnostic services
“The new Etobicoke Wellness Centre is shaping up to become an incredible hub for the community and will serve as a space for healing for years to come,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation. “The support for Etobicoke General’s redevelopment from donors has beentremendous so far, and for that we are truly grateful. We will continue to work over the months to come to raise funds to support the exciting hospital expansion taking place.”
