In total, 22 radio and eight television programs
raised funds on air for The Better Health Radiothon. Over $1 million
was pledged on the program Guanda Punjab, hosted by Joginder Singh
Bassi on radio station 88.9 FM. Not only did the hosts of the
various shows help the Foundation connect with the Canadian Sikh
and South Asian communities, but they raised awareness of the
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get involved with a brand new
hospital.
Callers and viewers were encouraged to give to William Osler Health System’s newest site, Brampton Civic Hospital.
The radio and television hosts, along at times with WOHC senior
team members and physicians, focused on new clinical programs
and services that are of particular importance to the Canadian
Sikh and South Asian communities, such as Diabetes and Cardiac
Care. Expansions to these programs is anticipated when Brampton
Civic Hospital opens in Fall 2007.
NEW:
The Better Health program is expanding! Plans are being made for
a second Radiothon. Also, Better Health seminars are currently
in design where participants can learn more about health matters
of interest to people in the South Asian community.
