Currently the sixth largest hospital corporation in Ontario, after this project is complete, William Osler Health Centre will be in the top three in the province.

William Osler Health Centre serves nearly one million residents over a 2,400 square km. geographical area. Today, Osler has 600 beds, 140,000 annual emergency visits, 7,000 births, 165,000 outpatient visits, 3,700 staff and 670 physicians.

Our patients are feeling the impact of facilities that are out of date. An insufficient number of beds for a population that’s growing by 30,000 people each year also means long waiting times in areas such as the Emergency department and Diagnostic Imaging, and for specialized services.

Residents in our communities need enhanced health care services, and the people of Brampton and the surrounding areas need the services of a new hospital today. The Ontario government and William Osler Health Centre agreed to build the new Brampton Civic Hospital with The Healthcare Infrastructure Company of Canada. This group has provided project financing, is building the new hospital and will provide select non-clinical services. William Osler Health Centre is a duly constituted, public, not-for profit corporation and thus, we will own, govern and operate the hospital as a public facility.

The transformation of William Osler Health Centre will be profound. Using the latest architectural designs and modern technology, patients and visitors will be greeted with bright, spacious rooms, welcoming registration areas, enhanced waiting rooms and useful retail outlets. This also means culturally competent care, using specific standards, practices and attitudes that enhance the quality of care and produce better patient outcomes.

Most importantly, Osler patients will have access to new clinical programs such as a regional Dialysis Unit, High Risk Obstetrical Services, a Cardiac Procedures Unit and other services once only available at a downtown hospital.
