Muslim Friends of WOHC donates $1 Million to Osler
BRAMPTON, March 27 - Muslim Friends of William Osler Health Centre, a group of community leaders, physicians, and concerned local residents, has pledged $1 million to William Osler Health Centre Foundation. Amongst the largest gifts given so far to the Osler Foundation’s Here for you... caring for you Community Campaign, the pledge will provide funds for the new Brampton Civic Hospital, opening this fall, as well as provide for redevelopment initiatives and program enhancements at Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Farooque Dawood, Chair, Muslim Friends of William Osler Health Centre and President of Dafina Holdings Ltd., announced the gift at a community presentation at Osler’s Peel Memorial Hospital in Brampton on Tuesday. The gathering included Mr. Tassaduq Hussain, The Consul General of Pakistan. “The spirit behind Muslim Friends of William Osler Health Centre is simply to gather support from various Muslim communities in pursuit of excellence in local health care for now and for the future,” said Dr. Dawood. “This pledge represents a promise from the large and active local Muslim community to ensure the best possible health care for all people who rely on Osler to provide quality medical facilities and compassionate care.”
Corporations and community groups are responding to William Osler Health Centre’s urgent need for funds to benefit Brampton Civic Hospital and to redevelop Osler’s existing sites at Peel Memorial Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital. The Foundation’s most recent gift of this size came from Maritime-Ontario’s Graham Munro Charitable Foundation earlier this month. Anne Randell, President & CEO of the William Osler Health Centre Foundation acknowledged the Muslim Friends pledge as an inspirational gift. “This million dollar pledge demonstrates the limitless capacity of a community group to set a goal to raise funds and make Brampton Civic Hospital a place of uncompromising care. I have no doubt in the success of this initiative given the dedication and drive of the members of Muslim Friends of William Osler Health Centre.”
Getting Involved
Today’s announcement serves effectively as the kick-off of The Muslim Friends of William Osler Health Centre’s public appeal. The group is actively recruiting new members and volunteers to contribute to this and other fundraising efforts on behalf of William Osler Health Centre Foundation. Plans that include a golf tournament and a local cultural event will require the support of the community.
